Reflecting on how these memories will soon be lost to him, it’s a stark reminder to Miles (and the player) that this world is populated by real people and their experiences, and that is worth fighting for. There’s also the prerequisite stealth options which — and this cannot be stressed enough — serve zero purpose for Spider-Man. As with most games, the choice to stick with stealth attacks will almost aways slow down the gameplay and result in most players triggering fisticuffs just to get back to the action. Thankfully, the team at Insomniac seem to have realized this, creating very few scenarios where the stealth is forced outside of mini-game sequences and, of course, Mary Jane. He’s working on his college admissions essay with the help of his Spider-tutor and has finally gotten a hang of the superhero schtick.
With new suit styles you can vary different colour patterns to spin your Spider-Man a fresh look, but the new suit tech system allows you to upgrade various attributes, like traversal, damage and health. And from that you can make even more choices to equip specific elements of that attribute. Enter the addition of Brooklyn and Queens, which nearly doubles the size of the city and offers even more familiar locations that are important to both Spider-Men.

Instead, Spider-Man 2 plumps for a pretty confused take on the now venerable black suit/Venom’s origin storyline. It’s mashed together with an uncharacteristically large-scale invasion of New York by Kraven the Hunter (seeking worthy super-powered prey) and a tangle of other subplots and returning villains.

With the passing of Aunt May, Peter also launched the Emily-May Foundation headquarters in Greenwich to honor her memory. Harry reunited with Peter and Mary Jane early in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, apparently cured of his terminal condition and ready to use his family’s resources to change the world. In reality, Harry had secretly bonded with the Venom symbiote, which hid within Harry’s body, with its origin revealed to be from a meteorite recovered by Oscorp years prior.

Ginga Suit – Miles
Miles Morales was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli in ULTIMATE FALLOUT (2011) #4, set in the Ultimate Marvel Universe. In this world, Aaron steals the genetically engineered spider, developed from Peter Parker’s blood, and Miles is bitten by it while visiting his uncle. In the aftermath of Peter’s death in ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN (2000) #160, Miles steps up to become the new Spider-Man and honors Peter’s legacy. Marvel’s Spider-Man finds a super-powered crime syndicate known as the Inner Demons taking advantage of the void left by the Kingpin’s arrest, often targeting Mayor Norman Osborn’s assets. At a mayoral reelection event honoring Officer Jefferson Davis for his heroism in the line of duty, the Demons attack, killing Jefferson in the chaos.
They are evolving brawls packed full of danger that put all of your skills to the test. Dodges and parries are key, as well as using environmental tools dotted around the arenas for your benefit. Despite a couple of new tricks up its sleeve, Spider-Man 2’s combat is very familiar – it doesn’t have that new suit smell anymore, but it still feels incredibly comfy to slip back into. The rhythm of precision dodges, the new perfect parries (so you’re not only swerving and striking now), and acrobatic finishers are hugely satisfying, as is chasing high-hit combos to keep the fight as stylish as possible.
During the It Chose You main story mission, Peter will venture into the sewers of New York. As he does so, a sneaky reference to the development team, Insomniac, is hidden. As Peter lifts the sewer grate, you’ll see “Insomniac Games” inscribed into the metalwork. Much like the previous Insomniac Spider-Man titles, the city of New York in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is filled to the brim with references and easter eggs that link out to the wider Marvel universe, amongst other fun nods and winks.
Upon seeing Peter wearing the exosuit, Connors reveals that it is actually an alien lifeform called a symbiote, which Oscorp obtained years prior from a meteorite, and warns Peter to destroy it. Under the symbiote’s corrupting influence, Peter refuses and keeps it for himself despite learning that Harry’s illness has returned, straining their friendship. As Peter goes on a symbiote-induced rampage against the Hunters (even nearly killing Mary Jane at one point), Kraven captures Miles and forces him to fight Li. Miles overcomes his anger towards Li and helps him escape, directing him to find Peter. Once Li informs him of Miles’ location, Peter arrives to storm Kraven’s fortress in an effort to rescue him and nearly kills Kraven before Miles intervenes, defeating the corrupted Peter and convincing him to remove the symbiote.
Marvel’s Spider-man 2 Platforms
The gameplay builds on the foundation established by its predecessors, with an emphasis on the multiple play styles offered by Peter Parker and Miles Morales as Spider-Men. The game expands on their existing traversal and combat abilities, including new web-based gadgets and suits that can be unlocked through progressing in the story. It also introduces the former Spider-Man’s symbiote suit, granting Parker unique abilities from his previous playable appearance. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a continuation of our Peter Parker and Miles Morales story featuring iconic foes such as Venom and Kraven, as well as many returning favorites. We introduced all-new abilities and traversal options such as Symbiote Surge and Web Wings, and we’ve also expanded Marvel’s New York with new boroughs and side missions to explore.
There are 31 main missions to complete in Spider-Man 2, and while there isn’t a “point of no return” to contest with, at certain times you are locked out from side missions along the way. After finishing the fantastic story I then went back to mop up all of the optional tasks that I had left to do. This took me another nine hours, meaning I reached 100% completion and that precious platinum trophy after 27 hours in total. Upshot deploys a drone that shoots webbing at nearby enemies then tosses them into the air. This can be used either offensively or defensively, allowing players to head straight into aerial combos or delay enemy attacks.

Where the first game starred Peter Parker, and its spin-off starred Miles, this one has both. Story missions choose for you, but often swap seamlessly between them as the action demands. Out in the open world, you’re free to change at will, with only a handful of activities requiring one or the other. In keeping with Insomniac’s track record, the music behind it all is stellar, with Miles’ and Peter’s respective signature tunes playing depending on who you’re controlling. A highlight, though, is the theme that follows in Kraven’s footsteps, which bears more than a passing resemblance to Howard Shore’s Uruk-hai war march from The Lord of the Rings score.
