It can be tough to critically gauge how ‘good’ a platformer is sometimes. With the exception of the truly bad ones, most of them achieve a decent baseline level of fun, because fun is all they’re going for. You can enjoy them in the moment, and it’s not until afterwards you realise it’s an empty sugar high. Across that lifetime of experience, I think Astro Bot is worthy of a medal. Every planet in Astro Bot provides its own unique challenges, often requiring players to think outside of the box or make use of special power-ups or hero skills. Fully completing every stage in Astro Bot will likely take around 16 hours, and many, many failed attempts.
Astro Bot Rescue Mission was a VR game that had players explore multiple worlds in search of Astro’s lost crew. It became one of the highest-rated VR games, so naturally, the franchise did not stop there. Astro’s Playroom would launch in 2020 pre-installed on every PS5, and once again served as a tech demo for the studio’s latest controller. Then, in 2024, players were treated to the full-length critically acclaimed platformer Astro Bot. Some platformers are really safe in their level design/movesets so you bet I’m critical.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 Is Still Nowhere To Be Found, But Now There’s An Astro Bot Cameo
Astro Bot feels like it’s showing off at times, but never in a way that pats itself on its back. [newline]It’s ceaselessly cute and clever, and feels more like a little kid delighted to show you their toy collection than a braggart displaying their trophies. The only ability that doesn’t work as cleanly as others is the one used in an underwater level. Meant to mimic a dolphin-like dive ability, the controls used for this one never feel as intuitive as those for other abilities. In this level, I found it unusually tricky, albeit not exactly difficult, to collect all the secrets. A few of them demanded a deft diving ability the backpack is meant to offer, but it doesn’t have the same accuracy of other abilities in the game, which led me to whiff on some sections in a way that was unique to this level. It was manageable, but if any secret levels–which tend to be some of the game’s hardest–also use this mechanic, I expect them to become some of the game’s few frustrations.
What Are All Special Bots In Astro Bot? Tir Mcdohl – First Star
Stuff to roll around in, stuff that forms little piles that can be kicked about. I’ll open a chest and there will be lumps of gold rolling around at the bottom. In one completely dazzling level I was given a magnet, and soon I was vacuuming up metal bars by the dozen and spray cans by the hundreds, all ready to form a bait ball I could fling at a distant target. Customers find the PlayStation 5 console to be an incredible value for money and report that it works perfectly. The build quality receives mixed feedback, with several customers noting that it feels flimsy. The hardware quality is also mixed, with one customer reporting no marks or scuffs on their unit.
But that’s not the only way Astro Bot celebrates history, as that idea is also directly tied to the game’s collectibles. In every level, there are a number of bots to rescue and puzzle pieces to find. Puzzle pieces help reveal new features in your base at the crash site, like costumes.
Astro Bot packs a ton of variety into its level design, both visually and mechanically. Team Asobi cements itself as an essential PlayStation studio with an imaginative platformer for the ages. A very inventive platformer in its own right, Astro Bot is particularly special for anyone with a place in their heart for PlayStation. Astro Bot from Team Asobi is a brilliant 3D platformer, one of the best PS5 exclusives, and an absolute joy to play from start to finish. @MikeTastic_86 I never said it ruined their experience, just reduced their potential enjoyment.

They fit in perfectly with the game’s vibe and atmosphere, which is really hard to find a fault as it even uses the DualSense speakers impeccably.
